Introductory Workshop to AR Development

with 2 Comments

On March 1st, 2020 the Cambridge University Virtual and Augmented Reality Society facilitated and introductory workshop to mobile AR development.

Within the workshop, the participants learned about the basic theoretical concepts underlying AR. In order to become familiar with AR development, we provided a brief interactive introduction to the development platform Unity3D. Building on that, the participants developed their first AR application: an interactive game. The goal was to develop a game in AR where a player can tap the screen to throw a basketball, and is able to move, rotate, and scale the basketball hoop within the room. By using open source resources, such as 3D models and scripts, participants could focus on realising the key concepts while keeping programming tasks to a minimum.

Based on the positive feedback, we are looking forward to host more workshops in the future.
