VR marks the next stage of digital interfaces: Whereas predominant electronic devices such as smartphones and computers display information on a 2D screen, VR can display information to a 3D depth. This adds another axis for envisioning data.
Alongside Alexandra Brintup and Yang Bang Min, Yong Bang Min has developed a visualization software to model supply chain processes in a much more organic, intuitive way. It is difficult to read the vast multitude of variables in supply chains from a 2D screen. There is too much information and too many relationships to portray–in short, it looks cluttered.
However, the added dimension in VR allows the information to be organized into a larger hierarchy. Additionally, the increased level of immersion also helps guide the user through the information.
The team has demonstrated their VR Supply Chain Visualizer to Phil Smith, the CEO of Cisco UK on June 2017 and received great response.
